What Is A Panic Attack?
Panic attacks are sudden surges of overwhelming anxiety and fear. It is far more intense than having anxiety or the feeling of being ’stressed out’ that most people experience. These attacks can come without warning.. You may lose your breath or feel dizzy. Your heart pounds and you may feel sick to your stomach. You may even have tunnel vision for a moment. In many cases, panic attacks strike out of the blue, without any warning. Often, there is no clear reason for the attack.
Recurrent panic attacks are often triggered by a specific situation like speaking in public or being introduced to a large group of people at a party. It can repeat especially if that situation has caused a panic attack before. Usually, the panic-inducing situation is one in which you feel powerless and not in control.
Left untreated, panic attacks can lead to panic disorder and other problems. They may even cause you to withdraw from normal activities. But panic is treatable.
The sooner you seek treatment, the sooner you can reduce or eliminate the symptoms of panic and regain control of your life.
