The symptoms of a panic attack develop quickly and can reach their peak within 10 minutes. A panic attack includes a combination of the following signs and symptoms:
- Shortness of breath or hyperventilation
- Heart palpitations or a racing heart
- Chest pain or discomfort
- Trembling or shaking
- Perceptual distortions like feeling unreal or detached from your surroundings
- Sweating
- Sense of feeling smothered, need to escape
- Nausea or upset stomach
- Feeling dizzy, lightheaded, or faint
- Numbness or tingling sensations
- Hot flashes or chills
- Fear of dying,
- Fear of losing control
A panic attack typically lasts for several minutes will probably end within 30 minutes.
